Transformative "Train the Trainer's Workshop" empowers local medical professionals
Over two enriching days, from April 18th to April 19th, the Burundian Association of Surgery (ABUC) and the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA), with the support of Jhpiego (the Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics), joined hands to host a dynamic “Train the Trainer’s Workshop” at the prestigious Hotel Dolce Vita Resort.
Over the course of two intensive days, dedicated healthcare professionals convened to enhance their leadership skills and bolster surgical care practices.
Day 1 of the workshop delved into the critical role of leadership in transforming surgical care. Participants engaged in discussions on addressing inequities, fostering effective teamwork, navigating change management, and prioritizing patient safety. Root cause analysis and surgical safety culture were also explored, setting the stage for a comprehensive approach to improving surgical services.
Day 2 witnessed focused sessions on quality improvement planning, intervention selection, setting SMART objectives, monitoring and evaluation, and change management. These topics equipped attendees with practical tools and strategies to drive positive change within their respective healthcare facilities.
A closing ceremony marked the end of the workshop, where certificates of achievement were awarded to each participant. A collective family picture captured the spirit of camaraderie and collaboration that characterized the training.
